Sensei Willy Strohmeier 

Hello, I am Wily Strohmeier, I am the owner and main instructor at our Brighton School.

Karate Background 

I began my Karate training at the same time as my two older brothers, Javier and Jorge in 1979 at the age of 6 in Lima, Peru. My Sensei was Luis Chiock Wong, who more than an instructor, was a great example and role model of an honest, correct person. He taught us the true way of Karate, great technique, spirit, and most of all the perfection of the individual's character.

I earned my black belt at the age of 15 after many arduous years of training. I am a third degree Black Belt in the Shotokan Style of Karate-Do. I have been part of the Peruvian Karate Team in the modality of Team Kata, earning a Gold Medal in the South American Championship in Chile 1991, and a Silver Medal in the Pan-American Championship in Curazao 1991. After immigrating to the United States, forming a family, and becoming a US Citizen, I have placed in the top three at several US National Championships since 1999. I have now also integrated the US National Karate Team this 2007 for the Pan-American Championship in Mexico, in Kumite (Sparring),  in the minus 70 Kilo division (154 lbs).

For many years I taught Karate ad-honorem (for free), coaching children and adults at my home or helping students at other Dojos. Having put myself through school for many years, formed a stable family, and become what one would be considered a successful individual, I realized at the end of 2005 that the time was ripe to fulfill my vision. I formed Colorado Karate Club and started teaching at a few Recreation Centers in the Front Range. My brothers have helped tremendously assisting and teaching at many of the classes.  Finally, in December of 2006 we acquired what is now our Headquarters in Brighton, CO. We opened February of 2007 and look forward to a stable growth of our student body.

My brothers and I continue to train and compete at the highest levels of Karate, but at the same time are shifting our focus to a new generation of practitioners who are beginning to display great ability, and are the promise of a bright future for the art and sport of Karate in Colorado. 

Formal Education 

In Peru I attended the Marist School (Colegio Maristas de Miraflores), now called Champagnat (after its Founder Marcelinus Champagnat), - 1979 to 1989

In the US, I continued my education as an adult, making time after work, and with the loyal support of my wife Kimberly (who put up with me through all these years of late nights at class, studying, and doing homework).

Personal  Perspective

I moved to the United States in 1991 and Married my wife Kimberly in 1992. We have five beautiful daughters, and have been living in the City of Brighton since 1997.

I work for Sun Microsystems as a Software Systems Engineer during the day, and in the evenings I teach Karate at the Brighton Dojo. 

I throughly enjoy teaching Karate, I believe that it makes a positive difference in the lives of the students. That is what drives me and motivates me every day. I am amazed and proud to see children and adults become excellent Karateka, but most of all, see the awesome personal transformation in the character of the students.

I am very open with my students, and consider myself not only their instructor, but also their friend. I aim to be a good role model to them, just as my Sensei has been a great role model to me all these years.
