Colorado Karate Club is a traditional Shotokan Karate-Do school founded in 2005 by Sensei Willy Strohmeier, serving the Denver metro area from two locations in Brighton and Westminster, Colorado. Our youngest students learn respect, focus, balance, and how to listen. - Children & Youth: Confidence that carries into the classroom. Children and youth build coordination, balance, and strength while learning respect, focus, and the discipline to finish what they start — plus real self-defense and anti-bully skills. - Teens & Adults: Transform your body, mind, and spirit. Teens and adults gain practical self-defense, sharper focus, real fitness, and stress relief — training alongside a supportive group that pushes each other to improve. - Families Training Together: Because students train by rank rather than age, parents and children can be on the mat together — learning the same material, testing together, and building something that lasts as a family. ## Instructors - Sensei Willy Strohmeier, Founder (Brighton): Founder of Colorado Karate Club (2005). Trained under Sensei Luis Chiock Wong beginning around 1977–78 in Lima, Peru. Competed on Peru’s National Team with brothers Javier and Jorge, earning Gold and Silver medals in South American and Pan-American Championships in Chile and Curaçao. Later represented the U.S. National Team at the 2007 Pan-American Championships in Mexico City and earned Silver in Sparring at the 2008 U.S. Open. - Sensei Kyra Arnold, 3rd Degree Black Belt (Westminster): Head Instructor and Program Director at the Westminster location. Began training under Sensei Willy in early 2008, started assisting in Pre-Karate in 2011, and competed in Kata and Kumite from 2011 to 2015. Earned Shodan rank and the Sensei title in 2016. Teaches Pre-Karate, Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced classes at both locations, leads the Character Development Program, mentors future instructors, and develops curriculum. - Sempai Trevor Card, 2nd Degree Black Belt (Both): Started as a Pre-Karate student in 2012 and trained for eight years before earning his black belt alongside his brother Logan. Failed his purple-to-brown belt test and persevered — a story he draws on when teaching. Devoted to inspiring students to be the best version of themselves everywhere. - Sempai Axel Peña, 1st Degree Black Belt (Both): Started as a white belt in 2013. Specializes in foundational training for new students. ## Class schedule Classes run Monday through Thursday at both locations. Students train two days per week, and may train up to four times per week if class size permits.
